Lent 2017 - Day 3

Friday 3rd March - Lent Day 3

Laying in bed just before rising this morning, I was wondering if I would be inspired by another image, now that my elephant piece was finished. Nothing came!

Then I noticed that the birds seemed to be singing far louder than usual (I always sleep with my bedroom window open and wake to the sound of birdsong, so I'm very used to a 'norm' of sound!).

So I started the day's readings. They were about rejoicing in the Lord, and also from Isaiah 6 - which talks about the Seraphim with 6 wings! Was this my connection?!!

Also from Isaiah, was "I will go, Lord, send me!'

So the piece started to come together - wings, joy, messenger, someone going...

This piece started off very differently, but a happy accident turned this into something quite different for me - and I liked it! Less realism, more illustrative I think :)

The dancer is the one 'going', full of joy. She releases the birds who fly off to spread the Word. Other birds wait on the wire to hear and then to be sent themselves.

I couldn't tell you how I arrived at this result if I wanted to lol, but I like it for this piece, even if I'm not sure it will be repeated!

Take Me Deeper 2016 - DNA - Week 30 - July 22nd - Creative Prompt

His Kingdom Come - Take Me Deeper 2016 - DNA - Week 30 Creative Prompt - I Am in In His Hand

Seems like I'm always running behind - this past week my Aunt was on her annual 3 day leave from her Convent and staying with my parents - who don't drive, hence I was taxi for the week! Good to see her but the heat has been unbearable for me, so being stuck in traffic a lot of the time hasn't been such a good experience lol!

Anyway, this is my piece for the creative prompt! It 's very simple and pretty muted...more down to how I was feeling than any creative plan, I think lol!

Take Me Deeper - September Week 4

Well, this piece was so much fun to create! It feels as if it almost created itself, other than one sticky moment with the water when I almost gave up and started again! Love how it turned out and the little 'story' that appeared - it's an encouragement for me at this moment with all the 'darkness' that's around in our Parish Church.

September Week 4 - The Promise of the Holy Spirit

I think there's something about Isaiah that just speaks to me - it's as if an invisible hand has reached in and grabbed hold of my heart! So I almost had no choice about what to work with when I wrote out the words of Isaiah 43:2 -

"Do not be afraid - I will save you.
I have called you by name - you are mine.
When you pass through deep waters I will be with you;
your troubles will not overwhelm you."

That second line - wow! I knew straight away that I wanted the water in the image. I again used the same 5 textures that I've used all month, rearranging them in layer order, opacity and blend mode. I loved the shapes that appeared in front of my eyes with this last combination and which, once the water was in place, suggested the shapes of mountains covered in bushes and trees! So I enhanced the trees idea with some brushwork, and tried to give the appearance of darkness closer to the water.

The lady is, of course, one of the HKC Digital images  (I've loved finding this subtle new away of working with them this month!). She has passed through the deep waters, the darkness at the water's edge representing her troubles. They have not overwhelmed her though as she has continued on her journey and reached the top of the mountain, when she worships and is bathed in light to represent blessings from God, and perhaps also being chosen.

This 'story' of the picture didn't come to mind until I spotted it myself when the piece was finished! It wasn't a conscious story I built into the piece! Love it when that happens, and looking at this such an encouragement for me at this time!
